But an unforeseen issue started occurring in warm ice and that is the teeth were so good and they were deep instead of pulverizing the core and having it you know to exit the screw-like normal the core was staying intact and attached to the ice as you were just cutting around it and once that core in warm ice certain circumstances got you to know long enough it blocked any additional debris from being able to exit through the inside of the screw and that caused the screw to bind up it had nothing to do with freezing and so we had to figure out how to not have the core form and there were two choices you know one was to go to three teeth and to have bigger less refined cutting and bigger chips get made in the cutting process.

 

Which caused the core to break up before it formed and you know a petzl was the first to go down that path going from four teeth to three teeth so credit to them for figuring it out first the other way i knew how to do it was to shorten the teeth you know we could go we could keep four teeth we could go from like 410 thousandths of an inch down to below around 360. and then we knew that the core wouldn’t form then either and so you’re left with a choice which way do you go shorten the teeth stick with four keep the teeth the same length and go with three and so we decided that we would go with three with the longer teeth because we could refine the cutting of the longer teeth easier than.
