Ethics is a branch of Philosophy. In which human behavior has been studied keeping in mind what is right and what is wrong. The term “ethics” is derived from the ancient Greek word ‘ethos’, which means ‘custom’, ‘human character’ or ‘disposition’.
- Ethics is also called moral philosophy because its primary goal is to promote good life and right behavior in the society. This can emphasize on bringing good in the society.
- Ethics is the branch of knowledge that studies human behavior and actions. It tries to link human behavior and actions with moral values.

- On what basis is an action right or wrong? How should a person behave?

Why did ethics come into existence, why did we need it?
As we know that humans came into existence from a creature named Homo erectus. Whose brain development was negligible, at that time the behavior of man was like an animal, he used to hunt and fill his stomach and searched for his place to live every day. At that time he had no knowledge of right and wrong.
- As humans evolved and became today’s Homo sapiens. Slowly his thinking ability started increasing. Man progressed towards a civilized society and civilizations were formed. With the settlement of civilized settlements, there were some more changes in the behavior of man so that he could decide what is right and what is wrong, what crime is? and what justice is?
- The society grew and some people of the society, whose thinking ability had increased, all of them established their domination over some sections of the society and some sections were treated inhumanly. Roman Catholic power in France, Casteism in India, apartheid in the Western countries, you will find many such examples in the world.
- It was from this that some unresolved questions that were brought to the test of ethics were discovered. Big social reformers defined ethics according to your thinking, some religious books were resorted like Buddhism, Jainism, Hinduism, Christianity, and Confusiousism.
- Many questions were raised by the reformers as to whether the way the weaker sections were treated was right. Could there be a civilized society which had no moral values? These are all the reasons due to which ethics came into existence.
